ecbi hosted a pre-COP training workshop for junior climate negotiators, who often do not have sufficient time to prepare for the negotiations under the UNFCCC. The workshop was organised to provide adequate information and impart knowledge regarding the upcoming COP29. Participants were given state-of-the-art information about the COP29 agenda and key matters for negotiation under climate finance, loss and damage, adaptation, and just transition issues to effectively prepare for COP29.
The pre-COP training workshop was held on 10 Nov 2024 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Baku, Azerbaijan, and was attended by 21 participants, including resource persons from 12 countries. The junior climate negotiators represented the Solomon Island, Bhutan, Federated States of Micronesia, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominica, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Vanuatu, and Malawi. With respect to representation, 76.92% of the trainees were women and 23.08% were men.
Presentations were made on the COP 29 agenda, climate science, takeaways from COP28, negotiations mandate and priorities for COP29, and a thematic list of the overall COP29 agenda.
